Shawn Gordon, 43

Shawn Gordon, 43, of Middleburg, FL passed away Thursday, June 29, 2017.  Mr. Gordon moved to the area in 1986 from Riverview, FL.  He graduated from Clay High School in 1992 and went on to serve a total of 8 years in the US Army and Army Reserves.  Shawn also proudly served his county with a 19-year career with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.  He served in many roles and areas, including investigations, homicide, narcotics, and as a Special Operations Lieutenant SWAT Commander.  During his career with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Shawn obtained a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Flagler College in 2008.  He also periodically taught at the Florida Law Enforcement Academy at St. Johns River State College.

In his personal life, Shawn loved to hunt, fish and go boating.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.  Sports were also a part of his life, as he enjoyed playing softball and football.  Most importantly, Shawn loved spending time with his girls.  He would do anything with them and for them.  He enjoyed taking them in the woods, taking them tubing on the boat, and watching them play sports, including softball, cheer, dance, and basketball.

Shawn is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Laura Gordon; mother, Julie “Ann” Garrard (Charlie); two daughters, Emma Gordon and Caitlyn Gordon; one brother, Dane Gordon (Shannon); one step-sister, Mandi Garrard; nieces and nephew, Caylee, Reagen, Desirae, and Brayden; and one great-nephew, Maverick.

Funeral services will be held 10:00am Friday, July 7, 2017 at St. Luke Catholic Church in Middleburg with Reverend Jaisemon Xaviour officiating.  Burial will follow at Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be 5-7:00pm Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the funeral home.
