Samuel Cory Hughes, 61

Samuel Cory Hughes, 61 of Fleming Island, FL passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021.  Sammy was born in Jacksonville, FL and returned to the Jacksonville area in 2004 from Santa Ana, California.  He served in the US Army and was a retired heavy equipment operator for hospital construction that took him all over the United States.  Playing Bingo, fishing, and his interest in classic hot rods kept Samuel busy.  He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and especially his three dogs, Jasmine, Jasper, and Clyde.

Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife of 32 years, Maria Hughes, daughter, Jacqueline Bernice Hughes, adopted children Juanita (Nicholas) Vonbargen, and Maurilio (Lizzbeth) Maldonado, stepfather, Julian L. Baird, brothers, James Hughes, Sean Baird, and Robert Hughes, sister, Regina Marie Hughes as well as many extended family.

Graveside Services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 9, 2021 in Jacksonville National Cemetery with US Army honors.
