Richard J. Canner, 87
Richard James Canner, 87, of Orange Park, FL passed away August 2, 2021. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Edward and Mary Canner. Richard loved basketball and played for his high school team. Upon graduation he joined The United States Marine Corps in 1951 at age 17. After his military service he began working for the Long Beach, NY School District from which he retired.
Richard and his wife moved to Florida in 1997 for retirement. He enjoyed horse racing and playing his lucky numbers. Richard was a huge NY Yankee fan but also enjoyed golf, basketball and football.
Richard had a very close relationship with his younger brother, Tommy, and loved and had great pride in all of his family.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 45 years, Alice Canner; his parents; and one sister, Joanne Wentzel. He is survived by his three sons, Robert Williams (Mary), Frank Williams, and Ward Williams; two daughters, Alice Crews (Roland) and Lynn Petrucci; two brothers, Thomas Canner and Edward Canner; and many grand and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 11am in the chapel at Russell Haven of Rest with Ralph Estevez officiating. A private family viewing will begin at 10:30am until the time of service. Burial will follow in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery.
