Reta Marie Chambers, 74

Reta Marie Chambers, 74, passed away on July 7, 2024 in Orange Park, FL. She was born on November 13, 1949 in Charleston, WV to Reta Kathryn Leake and Walter G. “Bud” Francis, Jr.

Reta grew up in El Centro, CA and found her true calling as a nurse. Over her 30+ year career she worked in almost every area of healthcare from the emergency room to the neonatal intensive care to home care. While she despised the paperwork, her compassion, knowledge, professionalism, and sympathetic nature was obvious to all of her patients.

She was a wonderful mom and Nana, loyal friend, storyteller, animal-lover, avid reader, and champion shopper. But Reta was above all, a fighter. She overcame illness and hardships numerous times in her life. Despite this, she maintained a bright outlook. Her love, faith, stubbornness, and slightly dark sense of humor will be greatly missed. However, we take great comfort in knowing she left this world at peace and with people who loved her.

Reta joins her parents and several other family members in heaven. She leaves behind a slew of close lifelong friends and family, including her beloved husband Billy Chambers, his children and their spouses, his extended family, her daughters, Susie and Heather, plus her real pride and joy, her 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by her cousins, Eva Wills and David and Kathy Oakley and their families.

Reta will be laid to rest in California.
