Raymond A. “Ray” Johnson, 81

Raymond A. “Ray” Johnson, Sr. 81 of Middleburg, FL passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018.  Mr. Johnson was born and raised in New York and moved to Middleburg 15 years ago from California.  Ray served with the United States Coast Guard from 1954-1962 and was the first recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor during peacetime and was a self-employed general contractor in home construction and remodeling.   He enjoyed bowling, golf, dancing and playing his guitar and singing.

Mr. Johnson was the last of five siblings and is survived by his children, Tony Johnson, Joe Johnson, Terri Schaben, Christina Hughes, Barbara D’Amato, Marie Johnson and Minnie Johnson, 23 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 18, 2018 in the Chapel of Russell Haven of Rest with Rev. Lee Johnson officiating.  The United States Coast Guard will be performing honors.
