Phyllis A. Robie, 81, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024. She was born in Jacksonville, FL to the late Vernon Maloy Parker and Mary Christina Faircloth Parker and spent her entire life in northeast Florida. An independent and formidable woman, Phyllis was much like her own mother, who she regarded as her greatest hero. Likewise, she held all of her relatives from Lake Butler, FL in the highest esteem, as they helped to care for her and her younger brother, Gary. She spent her early adulthood raising her three sons, building a house and managing their family homestead. She began her professional career as a school bus driver and eventually took a position with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in their traffic homicide division. Following paralegal certification, she continued her work as a paralegal in the State Attorney’s Office, where she retired after more than 20 years of service. A skilled, creative seamstress and interior design aficionado, Phyllis’ post-retirement hobbies included decorating her homes, crafting and reading. In her later years, Phyllis especially enjoyed the serenity of sitting on her porch and looked forward to visits with neighbors and family. Her love and devotion as a mother and grandmother were unparalleled, and it was in this defining role as matriarch that she did the most meaningful work of her life.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Chris Parker; her brother, Gary Parker; two grandchildren, Salina Nichols and Matthew Harrell; as well as her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Robie. She is survived by her three sons, Ben Harrell (Sheryl), Phillip Harrell (Tammy), and Jason Harrell (Lynn); two step-daughters, Lori Waugh and Michelle Anderson; eleven grandchildren who call her “Granny”, Phyllis Knight, Christina Harrell, Joseph Harrell (Danielle), Brandy Turner (Bennie), April Storey (Tony), Jason Harrell, Clayton Harrell (Shelly), Samantha Waugh, Brittany Surrency (Daniel), Andrew Anderson (Kyndall), Caitlin Thomas (Cameron); and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
