Norma Victoria Wright Perret, 98, of Keystone Heights, FL passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024. Number eight of ten children, Norma was born December 23, 1925 in St. Augustine, FL. Norma was well known and well-loved in her hometown of Keystone Heights, FL. She and her late husband owned and operated Perret Bait and Tackle until she sold the business in 1992 after her husband’s death. Then she chose to lend a helping hand at Bald Eagle Bait and Tackle. A determined and hardworking woman, Norma worked at the bait shop until two years ago.
Norma’s faith was an important part of her life. She was a founding member of Trinity Baptist Church, or part of the “Over the Hill Gang” who helped plan and build the church. Norma loved the children and youth ministries and was known for handing out candy every Sunday to generations of delighted children. Norma was a talented ceramist and made many nativity sets, pumpkins, Santas, among other things, in her own kiln. A generous and giving spirit, Norma enjoyed gifting her creations to her many family members and friends. She was also known for her chocolate covered peanut butter balls which she used to barter with in her hometown. The butcher at Hitchcock’s, her yard man, mechanic and barber have all been paid in her confectionery currency.
Dedicated to her family, she was a wonderful mother to her boys. Norma made a house a home and always welcomed others. She was always fun, had a great sense of humor and loved good pranks, even if it was on her. Norma lived a rich and productive life.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel A. Wright, Sr. and Lucy Lourcey; her husband, Eugene C. Perret, Sr.; two sons, Randal W. Perret and William “Bill” Perret; daughter-in-law, Barbara Perret; four brothers, William Wright, Cecil Wright, Samuel A. Wright, Jr., and Raymond Wright; five sisters, Pauline Dasher, Josephine “Jo” Murley, Marie Murley, Agnes “Aggie” Smith, and Elsie Kennett. She is survived by her son, Gene “Bud” Perret (Joyce); five grandchildren, Christopher Perret (Fran), Gina Warren, Jennifer Perret, Jeni Jaquet, and Gregory Perret (Denise); eight great-grandchildren; close friend who is like a son to her, Joey Tyson (Patty); as well as her many friends in Keystone Heights.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10:30am at Trinity Baptist Church in Keystone Heights, Fl with Scott Stanland officiating. A private family burial will take place at Keystone Heights Cemetery following the Memorial Service.
