Mark Richard Pfleger, 57, of Middleburg, FL passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024 after a year-long battle with anal cancer.  Mark was born in Springfield, OH and graduated from Kenton Ridge High School in 1985.  He then served his country for six years in the United States Marine Corps before beginning his career.  He lived and worked in various locations before settling in Florida.  He eventually began working for PSS in Jacksonville where he met his wife, Melissa.  He spent the last several years at Vision Manufacturing Technologies in Orange Park and loved working there.

Mark enjoyed playing golf, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes or the Las Vegas Raiders play football, attending his daughter’s softball games, and trying new beers.  He was also an amazing cook, which he thoroughly enjoyed doing, especially smoking ribs and chicken for everyone to enjoy.  Mark was well known for his sarcasm, loud laughter, and ability to make light of any situation.  He was always generous, very thoughtful, and was truly happy to help anyone he could.  He was also known to have a fun T-shirt or hat to wear for special occasions. 

Mark is survived by his wife of 15 years, Melissa Pfleger; his daughter, Alex Pfleger; mother, Marge Sansom; brother, Jason Sansom (Toni); two sisters, Christine French (Paul) and Sharon Stracener; his beloved dogs, Freddie and Teddy; his beautiful blue and gold Macaw, Murphy; as well as many extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in the chapel of Russell Haven of Rest with Patrick Martin officiating.  A graveside with military honors will follow in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Mark’s memory to The Anal Cancer Foundation or The American Cancer Society.
