Margaret “Helen” Gurney, 93

Margaret “Helen” Gurney, 93 of Jacksonville, FL passed away Monday, December 12, 2022. Helen was born in Chorley, Lancashire, England to the late James and Mary Briers. She then moved to Toronto Canada with her parents, sister, and two brothers. While living in Canada, She and her husband, the late, Denis Michael Gurney, parented two children then relocated to the United States and became citizens. They ended up in Arlington, Virginia, and parented their third and fourth child.

After her children were up in age, Helen worked and retired from Jacobson’s Department Store, completed her AA degree with Honors from Florida State College of Jacksonville, volunteered with Riverside Hospital, served as a Pink Lady at the hospital, and work with various ministries at St. Catherine Episcopal Church of Jacksonville. Helen also enjoyed making quilts, knitting, sewing, watercolor painting, music, dancing and gardening.

Mrs. Gurney is survived by her children, Glenn Gurney, Colleen Gibbert, Claire Kenyon and Celia Lyon, seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kevin Horton.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 17, 2022 in the Chapel of Russell Haven of Rest with Father Bob Bevans-Kerr officiating.
