Larry Michael Hogan, 82 of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away Tuesday, July 16th, 2024. Larry was born in Washington D.C. to his parents: Edward L. Hogan and Evelyn V. Hogan (Borden). His most joyful childhood memories included the adventures of growing up on a family farm with his brother, David, in northern Virginia. He spent most of his life in Rockville, MD, raising his family alongside his wife Bette. The couple met at a young age while working together at the Hecht Co. flower department and were married for 62 action-packed years. He provided his sons with a strong example of what honesty, integrity, family values, hard work and being a good neighbor should look like. Larry was a member of the National Guard during the Vietnam war and although he was never called to active duty, he was proud to be ready if called. Larry took great pride in working as a cabinet maker, spending 50 years at various metro area shops over his career. He was a master craftsman for his entire life.

Larry came of age in the 1950’s and had a life-long love of hot rods and Elvis. He was one of the last true “neighborhood guys”, valuing those relationships and always lending a hand, tool or suggestion to anyone in need. Also important to him were the many cherished friends he made during his daily neighborhood walks. Most who crossed his path in life have been blessed to receive his scroll saw handiwork, a hobby he was very proud of. Larry was an accomplished Mr. fix-it, duck pin bowler, horseshoe thrower and TV watcher. He loved animals (especially snakes), birdwatching, and anything to do with wildlife. He lit up anytime he saw a new bird species for the first time. In retirement, Larry continued most of his hobbies and enjoyed the Florida climate (mainly the lack of snow).

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Edward (Glenna) Hogan and Evelyn Hogan, his brother David Hogan and his bonus son Douglas Bostic. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Bette Ann (McKinley) Hogan; sons, Paul (Robert Thompson), Michael (Connie Bassett) and John (Sue Llanes); grandchildren, Troy, Emma, Owen and Leia Hogan; great-granddaughter, Gwenyth, sister-in-law, Shirley Hogan; stepbrothers, Patrick and Peter Hogan; stepsister, Jenny Hogan and many, many valued friends and neighbors.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, July 20, 2024 in the Russell Haven of Rest Chapel. A time of visitation with the family begins at 1:00PM.
