Johnny Lee Stamberger (LCDR RET),, 56

Retired U.S. Navy Veteran of 30 years and Civil Servant, Johnny Lee Stamberger (LCDR RET), passed away on March 01, 2022, at the age of 56 after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

John was born in North Kansas City, MO and attended school in Louisiana MO and Winston MO.  In 1986, he enlisted in the US Navy as a Machinist Mate Fireman Recruit, serving onboard the USS Iowa (BB 61) as his first duty station.  He later chose to make the military his career and was selected for conversion to Master-At-Arms.  He served on other ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets with deployments in the Atlantic, Northern Atlantic, Caribbean, Arabian Gulf, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, and Western Pacific areas of operation.  His sea assignments included Security Officer on USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70); Security Officer on USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19); Chief Master-at-Arms on USS Deyo (DD 98) and USS Iowa (BB 61). His assignments ashore were many, as well as were his personal decorations, which included the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards) and various unit citations and campaign medals.  John served his country with an honorable and impressive 30-year career.

As a dad, John loved spending time with his family, especially his kids Chris and Alyssa. Coaching their childhood sports teams, playing golf, attending a few rock concerts, and providing them with his guidance and wisdom are great memories Chris and Alyssa will always cherish.  John also enjoyed cooking, which he was quite good at. Five years ago, he acquired a new title as Papa to his precious little grandson Christian, who stole John’s heart immediately.

John was a good husband, dad, Papa, son, brother, uncle, a natural leader, a mentor, and a good friend to so many.  He was a good man and will be missed every day.

John is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Bonnie Page, and Jim and Jeanne Spencer.  He is survived by his wife, Sue of the home, son Christopher (Lauren) Stamberger of Virginia Beach VA, daughter Alyssa (Tommy) Kramer of Orange Park FL, grandson Christian Stamberger, Virginia Beach VA, his parents Jim and Gwen O’Dell, Malakoff TX, brother Scott Stamberger, Malakoff TX, sister Kim (JD) Crumrine, Royse City TX, many nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
