John (Jack) Robertson Bain, of Green Cove Springs, Florida, passed away on March 25, 2025, at the age of 102. As he enters Heaven’s gate, he will be greeted by his beloved wife, Marilyn Mahoney Bain; his treasured grandson, Alexander Thomas Bain; and his adored Sheltie dogs, MacGregor I and MacGregor II. John Bain was born on January 4, 1923, the only child of Thomas Alexander Bain and Mary Elizabeth Bain in Detroit, Michigan. Jack married his childhood sweetheart, Marilyn Mahoney, and, by the grace of God, had the rare opportunity to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary together.
Jack was a fighter pilot in the United States Navy, serving as a consummate officer and gentleman. His life, legacy, and service to our country embody the spirit of the adage, “The greatest generation ever to serve.” The patriotism and love of country that Jack held dear permeated all aspects of his life and the decisions he made, with a focus on service above self. While crafting an immaculate career as a Navy officer and fighter pilot, Jack also grew his family with Marilyn. Together, they had three beautiful and successful children: Sandra Bain Burcham, Marilyn Anne Westmoreland, and John Thomas Bain.
Jack is survived by his children, Sandra Bain Burcham, Marilyn Anne Westmoreland, and John Thomas Bain. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren: Christopher and John Westmoreland, Allison, Ashley, and Austin Burcham, and Scott and Alex Bain. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, all of whom enjoyed many years with their Grandpa Bain. He was loved, cherished, and admired endlessly!
Jack served his country and enriched the lives of countless people over his 102 years. Even in the face of adversity and enduring hardships, he and Marilyn found infinite successes with friends, family, careers, and life experiences. Jack was a wonderful provider, companion, father, and friend. We will forever cherish our memories with him and find comfort in knowing that he is now resting in peace with his beautiful wife.
