Jeffrey Edward Burkhart, 66

Jeffrey Edward Burkhart, age 66, peacefully went home to be with the Lord in the early morning of February 12th, surrounded by his family.

Jeff was born March 6, 1954, in Gary, Indiana, the son of Peggy and Kenneth Burkhart. Jeff grew up in Merrillville, Indiana and joined the Navy after attending Merrillville High School, where he ran track. In the Navy, Jeff served as a non-commissioned officer and fighter-jet technician. After his time in the Navy, Jeff met and married the love of his life, Annette in Jacksonville, FL. Jeff and Annette were married for 43 years and raised two children, Cory and Christina.

Early in his career, Jeff, always a conscientious and dedicated employee, worked for a local discount store, a beer distributor and mobile imaging company before going into physician practice management. His strong work ethic and dedication was foundational to his life, and he went on to become a founding member and Executive Director of Physicians Group Services. As Director, Jeff was a valued leader, mentor, and colleague to many. He was highly skilled at bringing physicians, people, and patient care together with remarkable results. His legacy will live on through the organization and people he inspired.

Jeff was active in his church and community, but his true passion and focus was with his family. His family was the center of his life and the source of his greatest joy. He is survived by his wife Annette, their son Cory (Erica), and their daughter Christina, two grandchildren, Pierce and Amelia, his brother Dennis, and sister Nancy Jones. He is predeceased by his father and mother Kenneth and Peggy and by his brother Michael.

Jeff touched many hearts with his incredible kindness and generosity of spirit. He has been a source of spiritual and emotional support for colleagues, friends and family. And, he will continue to be. His incredible warmth and friendship will stay in our hearts, forever.

Celebration of Life will be held 4:00 PM Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Grace Anglican Church of Fleming Island with a time of visitation beginning at 3:00 PM prior to services.  Rev. Mike McDonald will be officiating.
