With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gerald Thompson MacNeil, 57. Born December 26, 1960 in Sydney Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late John Michael Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth (Fraser) MacNeil.
Jerry was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Jerry grew up in Panama Canal Zone. He moved to Saint John, New Brunswick, where he enlisted in the in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Upon leaving the services, Jerry had a transportation company in Nova Scotia until he decided to move closer to his parents to help support the family.
Jerry was a man who was loved by all. He was a pillar to his family. Jerry had a real passion for running and was proud to have run the Donna Marathon for the past 12 years. He was a large Jacksonville Jaguars fan and an avid lover of football and Pool. He was a man who believed in community and was thankful for the great friendships he has had over the years. Jerry was every ones pal. Jerry was a man who took the time to say hi and to really get to know you.
He will be sadly missed by his children: Christina Marie (Graham Ransom), Laura Ashley (Curtis Wall), Julia Breanne. His grandchildren, Alison Natassia and Jake Aiden Ransom, Connor William, Cassidy Nancy MacNeil and Payton Jane Wall. Gerald Thompson is survived by his Sister, Mary Melinda, his brothers John Lawrence Jr, Patrick Stewart (Malia Boardman), and Ronald Gregory and his nieces Shannon Mary, Heather Michelle, Margaret Ann, nephew Michael Patrick Steven MacNeil.
Visitation will be at 11:00 AM followed by a Memorial Services at 12:00 PM Friday, October 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Russell Haven of Rest.
Interment will be held at St. Barra’s Cemetery, Christmas Island, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia at a later date.
Donations can be made in Jerry’s honor to the Diabetes Association.
