Gene Fred Prather, 83 of Middleburg, FL passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023.  Mr. Prather was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Hoyt and Margaret Prather.  He grew up in Tennessee and moved to Florida in 1962.  In 1991, Gene retired from CSX after a career of 30 years, was a member of Russell Baptist Church and was a member of the Middleburg Masonic F&AM Lodge #107.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering with his car and being “Granddaddy” to his many grandchildren.

Mr. Prather was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Prather, brother, Clifford Prather and sister, Betty Prather.  He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Prather, son, Timmy (Sandy) Prather, daughters, Tammy (Tony) Padgett and Donna (Jess) Farmer, sister, Kathleen Augusta, grandchildren, Justin H., Tyler, Hannah, Sunnie, Dylan, Justin F., Catie, Kelsay and Zach, and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in the Chapel of Russell Haven of Rest with Pastor Tommy Carter officiating.  Burial will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park.  A time of visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until services on Wednesday.
