Dennis “Denny” O’Day, 72, of Middleburg, Florida, passed away on Monday, April 8, 2024. He was the cherished husband of Faith Pequeen O’Day, beloved father of Kelly O’Day Higgins (Timothy) and Jamie O’Day Eby (Adam), and adored grandfather of Dylan and Emma Higgins. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas O’Day (Beverly), and sisters Delores Markarian (Charles), Linda Hill, and Margaret Gajski, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Gajski and Elizabeth Sinclair Duncan Gajski.
Dennis, affectionately known as “Denny,” was a devoted family man and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was born on October 15, 1951, in Buffalo, NY, and graduated from Seneca Vocational High School, specializing in Electrical Engineering. Dennis proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserves from 1970 to 1976 and a fulfilling career as a salesman at Frito Lay for 33 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Organization of Elks (Orange Park Lodge #2605).
An avid astronomer, Dennis found joy in observing the night sky with his friends (The Swamp Rats) and the Northeast Florida Astronomical Society (NEFAS) and the Ancient City Astronomy Club (ACAC). He received a Lifetime Membership from NEFAS for his dedicated contributions and served on its Board of Directors as the Director of Observing. Dennis earned numerous awards and certifications from the Astronomical League including Master Observer and served as an Observing Mentor, sharing his passion with many others.
In addition to his professional and astronomical pursuits, Dennis was deeply committed to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be forever cherished by his wife of 54 years, Faith, their daughters, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Epilepsy Alliance North Carolina (epilepsync.org) or to the Northeast Florida Astronomical Society (nefas.org) to honor Denny’s memory and passion.
