Charles Vernon Sims, 79

Charles Vernon Sims, 79, peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, April 22, 2023.  He was surrounded by his loved ones.

A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Vernon served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War.  After his service, Vernon returned home to marry Peggy Whitmire of Chattanooga.  Vernon worked at Arcade Print Shop (now Arcade Beauty), for 35 years achieving the position of Director of Quality Assurance before he retired to Florida with Peggy at age 55.

Vernon enjoyed his retirement vacationing, playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren, Stella and Zach.

Vernon is preceded in death by his brother Varnell Sims, parents, Wade Sims and Lois (Gravit) Sims and step-daughter, Teresa Janow.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy (Whitmire) Sims of Signal Mountain; brother, Jerry Sims; daughter, Angela (Hyatt) Sims; son-in-law Chris Hyatt; granddaughter Stella Hyatt; and grandson Zach Hyatt.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023, in the Hamilton Funeral Home chapel at 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343.

Mr. Sims will be laid to rest at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors; 1200 Bailey Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37404.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the chapel.
