Candie West, 60
Candie West passed into Heaven on July 11, 2021. She was born on June 19,1961 and was 60 years of age. Candie had a servant’s heart and dedicated her life to serving her Savior, Jesus Christ, and his Church. She grew up at Hillcrest Baptist Church in the children’s music ministry. As a young woman, Candie volunteered at Hillcrest Church with Music Minister, Archie Jackson, in the children, youth and singles ministries in the early 1980s.
Her ministry continued as Candie served in the youth and singles ministry with Associate Pastor Scott Yirka at Westside Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
Eventually Pastor Yirka was called to the pastorate at Hibernia Baptist Church, where Candie has served as his assistant for 20 years.
Candie’s work at Hibernia has been multifaceted and wide-ranging. Not only has she been Pastor Scott’s administrative assistant, but she has also participated in the senior adult, student, and children’s music ministries. Over the years, she has mentored and counseled many teenage girls. She has always reached out in Christian love to everyone she met. Those of us who knew and loved her will always remember her beautiful smile, her joyful spirit, her hearty laughter, her many acts of kindness, her wonderful singing voice and her amazing ability to organize anything.
Candie was preceded in death by her father, Larry L. West, and her brother, Timothy West. She is survived by her mother, Betty Jean West, her brother, David West, and sisters Katherine Warren and Susan Shrowder.
Services will be held 11:00am Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Hibernia Baptist Church in Fleming Island. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00am on Saturday.
