Betty Gerrald Harris found her true independence on July 4, 2023 as she left her earthly home following a short illness. Born November 30, 1926 in Wildwood, Florida, she moved to Green Cove Springs in 1945 from Williston, Florida. She is predeceased by her parents, Julia Loretta and Edward Gerrald, her husband, Charles Harris and a granddaughter, Amber Todd.

She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Stewart (Jon) and Karen Kelly (Pat) and grandchildren, Tony (Libby), Sacha (David), Damian (Chereese), Jeremiah (Monica), Jacob (Nancilyn), Noah (Kayla) as well as 17 great grandchildren.

Betty was a loyal and dedicated employee at the Bank of Green Cove Springs, and as a title clerk at several auto dealerships. She retired after many years of service, but that did not slow her down.

Not being one to sit in an idle posture, Betty was drawn to accepting a gift from God for which she had not previously realized. She became intrigued by the idea of art classes. As her talent developed, her creativity and skill allowed her to create beautiful one of a kind Christmas cards and greeting cards, so beautiful and detailed that they have served as treasured bookmarks.

As mother to two daughters, she took seriously the rearing of Cynthia and Karen. Surely the words of Proverbs more than adequately describe Betty Harris. “She is clothed with strength and dignity and…she speaks with wisdom…her children rise and call her blessed…a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all her hands have done and let her works bring praise at the city gate.” Proverbs 31:25-31

In addition, Betty was a woman of great strength and faith and found joy in doing for others, and in serving as a member of Faith Baptist Church in Green Cove Springs. She was aware of what needs arose and often made lunches and casseroles and desserts and delivered to those whose families were far away or who had no one close to offer assistance.

Betty lived her life built around the Biblical teachings of her youth from which she gained knowledge and she let those words direct her earthly path. Her reward is now realized. “…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40: 31

A private graveside service will be held for family members on Monday, July 10 at 10:00, Pastor Ron Baker, officiating. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be at 11:30AM, Russell Haven of Rest.
