Augustus “Buddy” Clifford Massingill, Jr., 74, of Middleburg, FL passed away Thursday, August 10, 2023.  Buddy was born in Chattanooga, TN and moved to Florida as a young child.  He was a graduate of Englewood High School in Jacksonville where he was a multisport athlete.  Baseball and golf were Buddy’s favorite sports to play.  Buddy was drafted out of high school by the Oakland A’s where he played for two years before being drafted by the US Army during the Vietnam War era.  Music was also a large part of Buddy’s life as he enjoyed playing the drums, guitar and singing.  After retirement, Buddy enjoyed spending time coaching softball at Lake Asbury Junior High with his daughter.  He also became the “best Pappa ever” and adored his grandchildren and great-grandson.  They loved to listen to his stories.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Diane Massingill; daughter, Kim Walker (Randy); brother, Scott Massingill (Donna); sister, Kathy Massingill; two grandchildren, Miranda Walker and John Walker (Dallas); one great-grandson, Rayland Walker; best friend, Deborah Wheeler; and his beloved dog, Sassy.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 11:00am in the chapel at Russell Haven of Rest with Johnathan Rodriguez officiating.  Visitation with the family will be held at 10:00am.  Burial with military honors will follow in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery.
