Lt. Colonel John Emery Voss, 95
Lt. Colonel John Emery Voss, USAF, (Ret.), 95, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Hospice Haven in Orange Park.
John was born August 31,1928 in Knox City, Texas to Ida Bell (McNeill) and James Thomas Voss. He graduated from Sunset High School in Knox City in 1946 and received a B.B.A. degree from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1951. He entered the Air Force in 1951 and served 20 years as a pilot and flight navigator before retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1972. On February 15, 1958, he married Jacqueline “Jackie” Letitica Kennedy. John was an avid sports fan, enjoyed summering in the mountains of North Carolina and was known for his love of an ice cold glass of Diet Dr. Pepper.
John is preceded in death by his parents and wife, a son Mark Kendell, and ten brothers and sisters: Franklin Pierce, Treasure Belle, Joe Willis, Cecil Thomas, Howard Coleman, Clyde Alton, Ida Juanita, Gladys Pauline, Leola “Mutt” Lois, and Verbon Christopher.
John is survived by two sons, John Kennedy and Jason Glen; daughters, Jamie Carol Valet and Melanie Jane; two daughters-in-law: Tammy Marie and Lucy Allen; 4 grandchildren, Samuel, Summer, Amanda and Shannon Lawson; grand son-in-law, Josh Lawson; and 3 great grandchildren, Hunter, Wyatt and Bryson.
Church services will be held on Monday, February 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Asbury Baptist Church. Visitation prior to the church service will begin at 10:00 a.m.. A committal service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
