Betty Whitaker Murray, 89

Betty Jane Whitaker Murray, 89, of Lake Asbury, passed away on December 19, 2022.  Betty was born in Middlesboro, KY on Oct 24,1933 to the late Clyde and Ada Whitaker.  Betty had 1 older brother, Edward Whitaker.  They had an breakable bond and  Ed looked out for his little sister throughout his life.  The family moved from Middlesboro when she was 6 to Kansas City for a year, where she attended 1st grade.  In 1941 they moved  to Jacksonville, FL where she attended Southside Elementary School, then Landon Jr Sr high school, graduating in 1951.  While in high school Betty was a majorette her Jr and Sr year.  After graduation she went to work for Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan and attended Jones Business College.  She worked for Fidelity until they merged with First Federal, retiring from there.  Betty worked her way up to Assistant Vice President.  In 1952 Betty met the love of her life, Homer (Pat) Murray.  They were married on January 24,1953.  Betty’s hobbies were playing bridge and loved paint by numbers.  She was involved with whatever sports or activities her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in.  She was always in the stands!  Betty was a long time parishioner at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (Father Larkin) where she volunteered to help count the offerings. When they moved to Lake Asbury in 2018, Betty and Pat became members of St Luke Catholic Church (Father Andy).
Betty is survived by 2 children, Melody Hoffmann (HM), Steve Murray (Cindi), 8 Grandchildren, Marc Hoffmann (Kara), Chris Hoffmann (Sarah), Jennifer Frisbee (Justin), Dylan Murray, Danielle Murray, Edward Sands, Ada Kessler and Emmette Kessler.  9 Great grandchildren, Tristan Hoffmann (Lindsey), Trevor Hoffmann, Trace Hoffmann, Kaylin Hoffmann, Trinity Hoffmann, Leah Hoffmann, Addison Frisbee, Ayla Frisbee and Bryce Murray.  She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Murray Kessler (George).

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 11:00, St Luke Catholic Church, 1606 Blanding Blvd., Middleburg, FL 32068.
