With heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Lawrence (Larry) MacNeil Jr., born June 17, 1959, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late John Michael Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth (Fraser) MacNeil.

John was a man of great passion; he was full of fun and had the best outlook on life. He spent every day a happy man. John was a great storyteller. His life was full of adventure, and he spent a great deal of time travelling. He was born in Sydney, NS, raised in Panama Canal Zone, moved to Saint John, New Brunswick, Halifax, NS, Sydney, NS, St. Thomas, USVI, Guam, and California. He did a tour of duty in the US Navy. Then moved to Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee, before making Green Cove Springs, FL his home. Larry was a medic in the Navy and spent the rest of his career in the health care industry as a CNA. He loved taking care of people. In his free time John loved to cook, go dancing, and meet new people. Even at 62 years old John found a way to stay in touch with his youth. You could always find him hanging out with his nieces and nephew cracking jokes and playing games.

John was predeceased by his brother Gerald Thompson, and is survived by his sister, Mary Melinda, his brothers, Patrick Stewart (Malia Boardman), and Ronald Gregory and his nieces, Christina Marie (Graham Ransom), Laura Ashley, Julia Brianne, Shannon Mary, Heather Michelle, Margaret Ann, and nephew, Michael Patrick Steven MacNeil.

A private service will be held for John.

Interment will be held at St. Barra’s Cemetery, Christmas Island, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Donations can be made in Larry’s honor to your local Canadian or American legion.
