Robert (Bob) Charles Houk, age 93, of Fleming Island, FL passed away in his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Robert was born on October 18, 1928 in Akron, OH to the late Paul Wesley and Helen Mader Houk where he grew up and graduated from The University of Akron. Robert most recently lived in Fleming Island for 16 years previously residing in Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra. He also spent more than 20 years in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Robert trained as a pilot in Pensacola, FL for the Navy and went on to enjoy a long and successful career in the logistics and transportation industry. He served as the Senior Vice President of Lee Way Motor Freight Company and later co-owned OKC Freightliner in Oklahoma City, OK.
Robert was a loving husband to the late Carolyn Jeannette Houk and the patriarch of their family that included seven children. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golf, snow skiing, travel and playing his trumpet. Through his 80’s, he could be found roller blading or riding his bike every day. He was known for his sharp business mind and his humor which continued throughout his entire life. He was lovingly called “Boppa” by his 16 grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Houk; his brother, Paul Houk; his wife, Carolyn Houk; and his son, Gary Houk. He is survived by his children, Paula Tate (Charlie), Karen Barger (Jeff), Sindy Wilson (Joe), Renee Miller, Jim Houk (Susan) and Robyn Bailey (Charles); 16 grandchildren, Shannon Stenberg, Trent Lucas, Hannah Tate, Kelly Dooley, Whitney Williams, Alexandra Wilson, Stefani Garrison, Samantha Scuddy, Nikki Miller, Taylor Daly, Braedon Garrett, Grant Mull, Lauren Mull, Anna Bailey, Amanda Bailey, and Chris Bailey; as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 10:00am in the chapel at Russell Haven of Rest with Patrick Martin officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior at 9:00am. Burial will follow in Daytona Memorial Park at 2:00pm.
