Faye Story Mandel, 59

Faye Story Mandel – Born April 9th, 1962, in Vero Beach, Florida returned to our Heavenly Father on Monday, June 21, 2021, after a brief illness. Faye was the youngest of six siblings born to Kelmer and Elizabeth Park Story. She attended grade school at W.E.Cherry Elementary in Orange Park, Florida, and Trenton Elementary in Trenton, Florida. She graduated in 1980 from Trenton High School. She was a member of the basketball and track teams, set school track records, and helped the basketball team win the 1979 Class 1A State Championship.

After high school graduation Faye attended St. Johns River State College and later served in The South Dakota Rapid City Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She married Brent Mandel in The Atlanta Georgia Temple in October of 1988. Faye served in many capacities within her church and touched countless lives with her Christ-like example, unwavering faith, positive attitude, and smile. At the time of her death, Faye was employed at Ridgeview High School and previously worked at Orange Park High and Ridgeview Elementary. She had a gift for making each student who came through her lunch line feel loved and their day brighter. The special education students at Ridgeview Elementary and Ridgeview High School held a special place in her heart.

While Faye had a passion for HGTV, redoing furniture, and sewing, her true passion was her family. Her greatest passions were being a wife to Brent, mother to Hannah Mandel and Joel Mandel, Grandma to beloved grand cat Layla Grace, sister to Susan Scott, Robert Story (Sara), and Paul Bramlett (Jeannie), sister-in-law to Patricia Story and Teresa Story Allen (John), and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents Kelmer and Elizabeth Park Story, her in-laws Doctor Lee and Lenor Mandel, her brother William “Bud” Story, brother Kelmer Story II, and brother John Story. The family would like to extend thanks to the angelic staff at St. Vincent’s Riverside and Clay for tending to Faye, and our families’ numerous doctors who have cared for Faye over the years. Also, thanks to her angelic sister-in-law and brother-in-law Tracy and Scott Mandel. Brent, Hannah and Joel –
In the eleven years I was blessed to know Faye, I cannot recall a single time that she wasn’t smiling, reaching out or just joyous in her being. She touched my heart so deeply with her love/kindness to Kimberly and Andrew. She knew the struggles; she cared, she did not judge. Andrew’s time at RHS was made so much better because of Faye. No words are adequate to express the deep ache in my heart for your loss — we are blessed to have the Gospel and know we will be together again. However, the raw pain of loss is real and searing. Please know your family is in my prayers along with an entire world that knew Faye. I was blessed to call her my friend. A tree has been planted in her name. Love, Joney

I just learned of Faye’s passing and want to express my condolences. Faye was such a kind and attentive friend to me when we lived in Orange Park 20 years ago. She was a sincere, warm, beautiful, and sunny person who I deeply admired. Everyone loved and was drawn to Faye, a beautiful woman inside and out.

I’m so sorry for your family’s loss.
    Love,
    Megan Gladwell
